In June of 2008, Urban Theater Project of Iowa collaborated with five other local arts and culture organizations to create an original theatre piece called Moving Home. In response to the historic floods in Cedar Rapids, these groups, led by Urban Theater Project of Iowa’s Artistic Director, Jason Alberty, who wrote the script and Executive Director, Leslie Charipar, who directed the piece, put together a show in three weeks that included over 20 actors, a half-dozen musicians, and one visual artists who painted an original piece during performance.
In addition to the original production, the cast and crew got together during the run of the show to record a CD of the show, which was recorded, produced, duplicated, and ready for sale in 72 hours.
The artists donated their professional fees, and all proceeds from ticket sales as well as CD sales were donated to the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation’s Flood Relief Fund.
